Suspected members of the dreaded terrorist group, Boko Haram has reportedly bombed Aminu Kano College of Islamic Studies.
The explosion happened at about 2.45pm this afternoon. Kano State Police Command confirmed the blast but didn't state the number of casualties.
The college was established in 1976 as a training centre under Kano state judiciary in order to train middle level personnel for the Area Courts (now Shari’a courts). It is located within the school for Arabic Studies (SAS), Kano as its temporary site with only four teaching staff and twenty students.….

A 4-month-old baby boy by name Faya, died in Gueckadou, South East Guinea, BBC reports.
Faya is said to have caught the virus [Ebola virus] from his mother, who died a few weeks ago.

The number of people killed by the virus in West Africa has now reached 672, according to new UN figures.
Ebola kills up to 90 per cent of those infected, but patients who receive early treatments have a better chance of survival.
It spreads through contact with an infected person’s bodily fluids.The outbreak was first reported in Guinea in February. It then spread to Liberia and Sierra Leone.
Last week, Nigeria, Africa’s most populous country, reported its first case – that of Liberian government employee Patrick Sawyer who flew to the main city, Lagos, in an Asky flight.
All officials who had direct or indirect contact with Sawye, 40, had been placed under “observatory surveillance” by health authorities, Liberia’s finance ministry said. Sawyer was a senior official in the ministry, and died in Lagos five days after arriving in the city.Nigerian authorities have so far identified 59 people who came into contact with Mr Sawyer and have tested 20, Lagos State Health Commissioner Jide Idris is quoted by the Associated Press news agency as saying.
Nigerians have been advised to be calm and not panic over the reported case of Ebola Virus in Lagos State, with an assurance that no Nigerian is infected with the virus.

Addressing a press briefing, the Commissioner for Health, Dr Jide Idris, affirmed that there had only been one case of imported Ebola resulting in the death of a Liberian diplomat in Lagos. He emphasised that health authorities were being very proactive about the detection of the Ebola Virus in the Liberian by ensuring that all contacts were being actively followed.
Police from the “A” Division, Asaba, Delta State, have raided a group of suspected cultists during an initiation ceremony at Umudaike Quarters, Off Ibusa Road, Asaba, and arrested 11 persons, including a 27-year-old woman.
Police Public Relations Officer, Celestina Kalu, said police swooped on the cultists following information received by the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, in charge of the police station.
She said: “A patrol team swiftly moved to the area and arrested 10 of them, and a female, aged 27 years. “Items recovered from them include one cut-to-size locally-made pistol, one live cartridge and one battle axe. The suspects will be arraigned in court at the end of investigations.”
A suicide bomber has killed a cousin of President Hamid Karzai in the southern city of Kandahar.
Hashmat Karzai was greeting a well-wisher to his house when the man blew himself up. Explosives were hidden in the bomber’s turban.
Mr Karzai had been receiving guests on the festival of Eid marking the end of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.He was a campaign manager for Ashraf Ghani, one of two presidential hopefuls vying to replace Hamid Karzai.
There was no immediate claim for the assassination.It follows a series of attacks carried out by the Taliban and their allies as votes are rechecked in the bitterly disputed election.

The wife of Cameroon's Vice Prime minister,Amadou Ali who was kidnapped alongside her domestic staff and one other person in Cameroon’s northern town of Kolofata by the Boko Haramsect on sunday 27th july (if you missed the story,Gohere) has been rescued by cameroon security forces.
The attackers stormed their residence and took the woman away.
A military commander in the area said Boko Haram militants engaged Cameroonian soldiers in the town for some time.The deputy Prime Minister, Mr. Ali, managed to escape the assailants to a neighbouring town, commander Feliz Formekong was quoted by Reuters news agency as saying.
A local religious leader, named Seini Lamine, was also abducted from the same town in a separate incident.
Mr. Lamine, who is called the Lamido, is the mayor of the town.
Cameroon had said it strengthened security at its border in April after Boko Haram abducted nearly 300 school girls in Chibok, Borno State.More than 200 of the abducted girls remain in captivity. The attack is the third Boko Haram attack in Cameroon since Friday.

The wife of Cameroon's Vice Prime Minister, Amadou Ali, was kidnapped this morning July 27th after members of the Boko Haram sect stormed her home in the northern town of Kolofata,officials revealed.
Mrs Ali was kidnapped alongside her domestic staff and one other person. The insurgents also killed 3 people in the attack on Kolofata, a town in Cameroon's Far North Region near Nigeria Colonel Felix Nji Formekong, the second commander of Cameroon's third inter-army military region (RMIA3) based in the regional headquarters of Maroua, said the sect members are believed to still be in the town fiercely engaging military officers "The situation is very critical here now, and as I am talking to you the Boko Haram elements are still in Kolofata town in a clash with our soldiers. Some of them have already taken away the wife of Vice Prime Minister Ahmadou Ali and her house help while the bodyguards of the Vice Prime Minister have succeeded in taking him out of the town to Mora," Formekong said, adding that there could be more casualties" he said.
Militant leader, Dokubo-Asari, who is also the leader of Niger Delta Peoples Salvation Force, NDPSF, yesterday 26th july, exploded, saying Buhari masterminded the attack on himself.

The Ebola Virus is spreading rapidly across West Africa and has caused over 600 deaths since the first reported case in February.
1. Ebola Virus Disease (EVD), formerly known as Ebola haemorrhagic fever, is a severe, often fatal illness in humans.
2.EVD outbreaks have a case fatality rate of up to 90% meaning 9 out of 10 peoplewho contract the disease are likely to die3.The virus is transmitted to people from wild animals and spreads in the human population throughhuman-to-human transmission.
4.Ebolacan be contracted through direct contact (through broken skin or mucous membranes) with the blood, secretions, organs or other bodily fluids of infected people including semen and vaginal fluid.5.Contact with the corpse of a diseased person can also lead to infection with the virus.
6.The symptoms of Ebola include fever, intense weakness, muscle pain, headache and sore throat.7.The incubation period, that is, the time interval from infection with the virus to onset of symptoms, is2 to 21 days
8.Suspicious wild life aka Bush meat should be avoided as much as possible and animal products to be consumed should be thoroughly cooked before consumption.9.Regular hand washing is advisable to avoid picking up germs. ,in a statement yesterday, said:“The latest attack in Kaduna on Wednesday by yet unknown persons has once again thrown up new dimensions in the political life of our dear country. This, and several other attacks have tended to portray our dear country as a terrorist nation that is grappling with insecurity. To state the least, this bloodletting must stop. This bloodletting has to stop.
“I have sat back in my quiet retirement home in Minna to ponder what could be the motivation for these several attacks, but I am yet to find any explanation why Nigerians would be killing fellow Nigerians. For those of us who fought the civil war, our painful sense of nostalgia still remains deep, as much as our patriotic attitude towards this great country, Nigeria. These wanton killings and needless bloodletting have continued to retard our growth and democratic journey, forcing the system to improvise all manners of mechanisms to arrest this descent to anarchy. It is callous and inhuman for anyone to goad this country on the path of perfidy, a path that is laid with landmines and bombs.
This is totally unacceptable.“Even as I sympathise with my colleague former President, General Muhammadu Buhari for escaping the bomber’s scalpel, I also wish to condole with the families of those who lost their lives in this attack.
"It is frightening and calls for condemnation by all well meaning people of Nigeria. We all must rise above partisanship in our condemnation of this state of insecurity, as we all must be united in our clear-cut resolve to find solutions to this hydra-headed situation we find ourselves. We all must join hands with Mr. President at this critical time of our national history and democratic journey to proffer solutions to this anti-development scenario that is fast enveloping us.” Meanwhile, the bomb attacks were reported to have targeted a Former Head of State, General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd)and an Islamic cleric, Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi.Although the two were unhurt in the attack, Buhari, however, expressed shock as he said no threatening message or warning was sent to him prior to the attack, while Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi, who described the attack as ‘Un-Islamic, barbaric and condemnable’, said:“ In Allah we trust, as such nothing evil shall happen to me".
President Goodluck Jonathan, who condemned the attack, however, thanked God for sparing Buhari’s life.
Buhari’s wife also expressed shock over the assasination attempt on her husband.
The General Overseer of the Living Faith Church, aka Winners Chapel,Bishop David Oyedepo while reacting to the incessant attacks by the vicious Boko Haram sect, said that Nigeria is on the verge of a break up.
Bishop Oyedepo stated:
“I hope that we are willing to find solution to it. I would be the last person in this world to believe that government has not discovered those who are behind Boko Haram.“Otherwise, we don’t have any intelligence service in our country.
Are they sacred cows that cannot be brought to book? Until we cut the source of their supplies and get those who are involved, we cannot stop them. But the danger is this, and I must say it here, we are at the verge of a break up. That is the truth. It’s unfortunate.The Nigerian nation is too intelligent to claim not to have discovered those who are behind this. So, I really believe it’s all in the hands of the authorities to decide whether they want to confront the issue headlong or to keep watching it until Nigeria breaks up……All that the church can do is to pray.
“The church is not in power, it has no political power. And when invited, we give advice, when required or called upon. You can’t call someone and say can I advise you?” On July 17, it was reported that Oyedepo said the onslaught of Boko Haram in Nigeria was beyond politics and the incessant attacks had taken a toll on Nigeria.Bishop Oyedepo, who has in recent times expressed his sadness over the several attacks carried out by Boko Haram sect on June 29, during a Sunday Service, had prayed that Boko haram members and sponsors would be tormented by the spirit of death for eternity, and they would never know peace, wherever they are.
It would also be recalled in May, that Oyedepo had urged President Goodluck Jonathan to put an end to terrorism, so as to prevent war from happening in Nigeria. Meanwhile, Oyedepo, Chancellor of Covenant University, Ota, Ogun State, who gave reasons for the increasing violence in Nigeria said that the “struggle for political power between the country’s ruling class was also a reason for insurgency and other socio-economic and political conflicts befalling the nation”. While saying that if the Federal Government wants to wipe out Boko Haram then the Leaders in the country need to have character, courage and capacity, not just to identify the main causes of the problems but also to be able to deal with them.
The federal government has confirmed the death of a victim of Ebola virus in a Lagos hospital.
The Minister of Health, Professor Onyebuchi Chukwu, at a briefing in Abuja Friday said: “on July 22, the Federal Ministry of Health was alerted on a suspected case of Ebola virus disease in Lagos involving a 40-year old male, travelling from Monrovia, Liberia to Nigeria on Asky Airline via Lome to Lagos.
“The passenger presented with fever, vomiting and diarrhoea on arrival at the airport.He was then handed over by the airline to the Port Health Services of the Federal Ministry of Health who quickly isolated him and transported him to the hospital, avoiding contact with the general public.
“The patient was subjected to thorough medical evaluation where laboratory investigations where carried out. His blood sample was taken to the advanced laboratory at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital,LUTH which confirmed the diagnosis of Ebola Virus Disease. The result was corroborated by other laboratories outside Nigeria. “Despite the urgent specialised barrier nursing care provided for the patient in Lagos, the patient unfortunately passed away in the early hours of July 25, 2914.” The minister however reassured the general public that his ministry was currently working with other ministries, agencies and international organisations, as well as, the Lagos State Government to prevent the spread of the virus. According to the minister, “all the passengers the patient came in contact with have been traced and are being investigated; in line with the WHO international health regulations and in keeping with international best practices, all ports of entry into Nigeria including airports, seaports and land borders are placed on Red Alert. “Ministry of Health specialists have been positioned in all entry points. Active surveillance has also been stepped up. “All government tertiary health institutions in Nigeria have been equipped to handle any emergency that may arise from the disease.” The Minister also noted that “an emergency operation centre has been established, coordinated by the Centre for Disease Control of the Federal Ministry of Health with an inter-ministerial committee set up by Mr President, headed by the Minister of Information in order to sensitize the public.” The following numbers, the Minister said can be used to contact ministry officials in case of any emergency. The Nigerian military on Friday 25th july said it arrested a suspected bomber who disguised himself as a woman.The suspect was caught near the Buhari bomb blast site.

A statement by the Defence Headquarters said the man who was dressed like woman was suspected to be connected with the explosion targeted at the convoy of a former military head of state, Mohammed Buhari, in Kaduna.The attack occurred near the busy Kawo market in Kaduna, killing 15 people, the police said.
A bomb-laden car rammed into the ex-leader’s convoy after trailing it for a distance, and unsuccessfully trying to overtake the escort vehicle to reach Mr. Buhari’s armoured SUV.The military said the suspect was arrested by a security team that arrived at the explosion site not long after the blast. He was caught while trying to merge into a crowd of onlookers.
Some youth in the area tried to lynch the suspect while he was being arrested but were restrained by troops who whisked him away in an Armoured Personnel Carrier, APC.The statement said the suspect was currently being interrogated by security agencies to figure out his links with the attempt on Mr. Buhari’s life.
