Manchester United Midfielder,'Shinji Kagawa ' Returns To His Former Club,BVB

Manchester united'sShinji Kagawa has earlier today 31st August returned to his former club,Borussia Dortmund in a four-years contract.

Kagawa who joined Manchester United in 2012 made 57 appearances and scored six goals for the club.

Kagawa, speaking to Borussia Dortmund's official website after he got signed said;

"I wanted to realise my Premier League dream but now I'm happy to be back in Dortmund in this great team. Dortmund is like a family,"

"I am proud they have never forgotten me and I can belong again.";The mildfielder said .

Kagawa made just one appearance under new United manager Louis van Gaal this season - in their 4-0 Capital One Cup defeat against MK Dons.

Man Dies Of Ebola at UCTH Calabar

A man died of Ebola virus yesterday, 30th August at university of calabar teaching hospital,Cross River State.

Eye witness told us that the man came in with the help of another person, and nurses fleed when he came in. He was seriously bleeding from his nose and ears and vomiting blood seriously.

The man who brought him was said to have flee when he started vomiting blood.

When the Doctors where called upon, it was confirmed that it was sympthoms of ebola before he eventually died.

This would be the first case of Ebola recorded in Calabar,Cross River state.

Son kills Father, Buries Him In shallow Grave In Enugu State

Mr. George Ofonago a man from Enugu State, Nigeria was shot dead by his son, Mr. Chukwuekezie Ofonago Chukwuekezie who have been arrested by the Enugu State Police Command said that he shot his father with a double-barrel gun at a hideout where he was kept while demanding an undisclosed sum as ransom from his family.

The incident occurred at Abor village Enugu Inyi Community, Oji River Local Government Area of Enugu State.

According to the State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Ebere Amaraizu, operatives of the Homicide Section of the State Criminal and Investigations Department (SCID) of the state police command have already commenced full scale investigations into the incident.

He said that the deceased had suddenly disappeared from his home prompting his family members to raise an alarm.

The son was fingered to have been involved in his father’s disappearance in the course of the search. “Following the sudden disappearance of the deceased, information got to the security operatives about the involvement of the son whom his family suspected reasonably to have played a suspicious role,” he said. While the kidnappers continued to demand for ransom from their hideout, the son of the deceased was tracked down by the police.

He gave an insight on how he abducted the father and took him to where he allegedly shot him dead with a single barrel gun and buried him in a shallow grave.

Chukwuekezie confessed that it was not his wish to shoot the father but that he was under pressure from the father who had instructed him to shoot him to death.

In another development, one Uchenna Francis Nwozor who specialized in threatening members of the public with kidnap and demanding ransom within Oji River and its environs, has been arrested.

The suspect believed to have participated in kidnapping some persons in the past, according to the police spokesman, is now helping the operatives of the Anti Kidnap Unit in their investigations. He had allegedly threatened to kidnap someone on phone if he fails to pay the sum of N5 million but he was later arrested by the police in Awka before he could execute his plan.

Olusegun Obasanjo Appointed As Jigawa Varsity Chancellor

Today, 30th August Governor Sule Lamido of Jigawa appointed former President Olusegun Obasanjo as the pioneer Chancellor of the newly established Jigawa State University.

The State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Haruna Wakili, stated this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Dutse.

The commissioner also explains that the appointment letter has been sent through a delegate to the former President at his country home in Abeokuta. On why the State Government choose Obasanjo, Wakili said;

“The government arrived at the decision after due consideration of his immense contributions to the making of modern Nigeria; as former military head of state and two terms democratically elected President.

“Obasanjo is an internationally recognised and respected elder statesman and indeed an eminent personality of proven integrity who served his country to the peak, diligently, selflessly and sincerely,” he said.

Boko Haram Turns Police College to Training Camp – Survivor

The police college overrun by Boko Haram sect over a week ago has been converted into the base of the terrorist group, according to the Director, Catholic Social Communications, Maiduguri Diocese of the Catholic Church, Gideon Obasogie, who narrated the account of a survivor to Saturday PUNCH on Friday.

The clergyman in both telephone chat and e-mail to Punch, said:

“I am sad, really sad to my bone marrows about this ugly development. The world must know the truth; people were captured and taken to the police training ground for serious training as combatants. It is now one of their strongest bases. The missing policemen have joined the Boko Haram instructors. The guys are multiplying in number, weaponry and geographical expansion.”

When asked how he got the knowledge of happenings in the captured police college, Obasogie revealed that he was briefed by a member of his church who was one of the policemen being held captive at the college by the group, but had managed to escape through the hills into Yola, Adamawa State capital.

The college is a riot police academy in Liman Kara, on the outskirts of Gwoza, a hilly town in Borno State, North-East Nigeria. It is one of only two riot police training colleges in Nigeria. The Boko Haram insurgents had on Wednesday, August 21, 2014 attacked the Police Academy, Gwoza, Borno State, and seized not less than 200 assault rifles from the riot policemen on training. It was learnt that the police authorities resumed the suspended training with the batch of 159 personnel from the Police Mobile Force only for them to be attacked a week into the exercise on Wednesday. Investigations further revealed the insurgents did not encounter any strong resistance from the police personnel as the riot policemen were directed to keep all their guns at the armoury of the academy before Boko Haram attacked the academy and captured the armoury.

Experimental Ebola Drug Zmapp Confirmed 100% Effective in Treating Infected Monkeys

Hopes of a breakthrough in the fight against the deadly Ebola virus have been raised by the 100 per cent successful treatment of monkeys with the deadly disease.

According to a new research published in a special report on Nature journal's website, the experimental drug ZMapp cured the animals even when administered five days after infection, while they were displaying severe symptoms. All 18 rhesus macaques made a complete recovery, incontrast to three other untreated monkeys that quickly fell seriously ill and died.

ZMapp is a blend of three laboratory-made antibodies designed to neutralise the virus.Two United State doctors given the drug after they were infected with Ebola while working in Liberia subsequently recovered. But it is not known whether they were saved by the drug or just lucky. About 45 per cent of those infected in the current outbreak have survived without treatment. At least two other patients treated with ZMapp have died, possibly because help got to them too late.

A team of scientists led by Dr Gary Kobinger, from the Public Health Agency of Canada, wrote:

'ZMapp exceeds the efficacy of any other therapeutics described so far, and results warrant further development of this cocktail for clinical use. We hope that initial safety testing in humans will be undertaken soon, preferably within the next few months, to enable the compassionate use of ZMapp as soon as possible.'

The news follows a warning from the World Health Organisation that the Ebola outbreak in West Africa could eventually claim more than 20,000 victims.

Boko Haram foreign negotiator names Alimodu Sheriff as Boko Haram sponsor

In a recent interview with Arise News TV, Australian hostage negotiator, Stephen Davis, who was hired by the Nigerian government some months back to help negotiate with Boko Haram members to facilitate the release of abducted Chibok girls, mentioned the name of former Borno state Governor, Alimodu Sheriff as a sponsor of the terrorist group, Boko Haram. He also said that an unnamed past Chief of Army Staff who was sacked by President Goodluck Jonathan was also a sponsor of the group.

In the video released yesterday, Davis was very quick to mention the names of the alleged sponsors.

"The first thing to do.. go and arrest Former Borno state Governor, Sheriff who has been funding this for years. He hooks these guys up. He is so frightened that he has switched party to the ruling PDP in the hope that this would give him protection. That guy has really got to go and you know he is enormously corrupt."

"Why the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has not yet picked him up is anybody's guess. There is a...the former Chief of Army Staff retired in January but was actually sacked by the President is another sponsor. I would give you the names if you like, I have no fear of this. We are very confident and in fact Boko Haram senior commanders who have been naming them in the interactions I have had with them over many months, confirming what we knew sometime before from other commanders" he said.After the interview was released, former FCT Minister, Mallam Nasir El Rufai took to his facebook page to say that the unnamed former army Chief is Lt. Gen Ihejirika rtd, the immediate past Chief of Army staff. Below is what El-Rufai posted on his facebook page

Reacting to the claims against him made by El Rufai, Lt Gen Ihejirika who spoke with Vanguard said he isn't surprised that the allegation is coming from the former minister who he said is the real sponsor of Boko.

"The Commanders including El-Rufai know where the problem is. He should stop deceiving Nigerians by trying to divert attention. When the Boko Haram operation started, supporters of the sect like El Rufai said that there was nothing like Boko Haram and that the Army was just killing innocent youths. If you also remember, not too long ago, some of their supporters including El-Rufai said that I was re-inventing the killing of the Ibos during the Biafra war following government's determination to rid the country of terrorism. The likes of El Rufai started the campaign of human rights abuses in order to divert international attention from the heinous crime being committed by the Boko Haram terrorist. The likes of El Rufai have been supporting Boko Haram. Infact, El Rufai and his likes are the same group of people that ensured the army did not get the requested equipment to deal with the menace once and for all as they used their cohorts to tell the government that procuring modern equipment was unnecessary. At the onset of this crisis, I was the first person to declare that the country was at war but a group of sponsors led by El Rufai disagreed, saying that it was not true. It is the same group of El-Rufai that started the human rights abuses campaign. It was done in order to block any international assistance after the state of emergency was declared and the sect was initially tamed. That gave Boko Haram time and respite to build up again" he said

Doctor Dies of Ebola Virus In Port Harcourt, 70 people Quarantined

According to reports, a doctor in Port Harcourt who secretly treated somebody (diplomat) who came in contact with the Liberian-American,Patrick Sawyeris dead.
The doctor who has yet to be named died on friday having contracted ebola virus.
The doctor's wife is also ill and has been quaratined in PH.
Interestingly, the diplomat treated by the doctor is still alive.
The diplomat, who was part of the team who met with Patrick Sawyer in Lagos, flew to Port Harcourt, Rivers State for treatment, evading Nigerian federal government surveillance for the disease. The late doctor then took him to a hotel for treatment. As a result of this, 70 people have been quarantined. The doctor’s hospital, Good Heart Hospital in Rivers State, has been shut down. The unnamed hotel, where the secret treatment took place, has also been shut down. The Minister of Health and the Rivers State government are expected to make a statement on the incident tomorrow.

Speaking during a press conference in Opebi, Lagos, earlier in the week, he narrated his experience thus: “I was thoroughly embarrassed in the US a couple of days ago while I was on tour. In New York, an airport cab driver who took me to my hotel; as soon as he discovered I was a Nigerian, he asked, ‘have they found those girls.’ I was so embarrassed as I had nothing to say. Again, it happened in Los Angeles when another cab man asked me the same question. Can you imagine a cab man saying that? It was very embarrassing and I realised that whether we like it or not, wherever we find ourselves in the world, we must defend the image of our country, but we have to start from the very source of this problems.”

According to the singer, it was a reflection of the fact that indeed a lot was wrong in Nigeria as a country.

Our leaders need to check themselves.

“Today it is Ebola, tomorrow it is Boko Haram and before you say anything , its kidnapping. We all need to pull our resources together to make a change. We have the capacity to do that and make things right .” He said.
